However, it is precisely this equation that is important to correct in practice.<\/p>\n<p>An invoice is only considered an e-invoice if it is issued, transmitted, and received in a structured electronic format. This format allows for electronic processing. Therefore, it is not just about being \u201edigital\u201c, but also machine-readable and structured.<\/p>\n<p class=\"visual-headline--5\">Important for practice:<\/p>\n<p>A PDF invoice sent by email will generally no longer be considered an e-invoice from 1 January 2025, but will count as an \u201eother invoice\u201c. Therefore, they can continue to use other types of invoices, such as PDFs, depending on the framework conditions.<\/p>\n<p>Organise and establish the receipt of e-invoices stably from an organisational and technical perspective. At the same time, many overviews emphasise: since the 2025 reception, companies should generally be prepared (reception capability as a reliable basis).<\/p>\n<p>Transition arrangements for issuing and sending provide for staggered deadlines in the first few years, during which PDF invoices will continue to be possible.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Examples of exceptions:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul class=\"list list--1\">\n<li>B2C invoices (to private customers)<\/li>\n<li>Small amount invoices and certain travel tickets<\/li>\n<li>Certain tax-exempt sales<\/li>\n<li>Small business owner (special rules for issuing, not receiving)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Transitions and special cases exist, but reception capability will be mandatory from 2025.<\/p>\t\t<\/div>\n\n\t\t\t<\/div>\n<\/section><div class=\"page__background-break lazyblock-background-break-Z2b2lx5 wp-block-lazyblock-background-break\"><\/div><section class=\"element teaser-list teaser-list--3 lazyblock-teaser-list-3-Z1Ewu1N wp-block-lazyblock-teaser-list-3\">\n\t<div class=\"element__anchor\" id=\"Z1Ewu1N\"><\/div>\n\n\t\t\t<div class=\"text-box text-box--1\">\n\t\t\t<div class=\"layout-container--1\">\n\t\t\t\t<h2>What e-invoicing formats are &nbsp;<br><span class=\"visual-headline--4\"><strong>Permissible?<\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n<p class=\"text--intro\">When it comes to e-invoicing formats, EN 16931 \/ DIN EN 16931 is regularly referenced. This is the common denominator in Europe: the standard describes which data an e-invoice must contain and how it is structured. During audits, it must be possible to prove when the invoice was received or sent, what content it had, and that it has remained unchanged.<\/p>\n<p>In practice, you need a solution for:<\/p>\n<ul class=\"list list--1\">\n<li>structured data (and depending on the format, also a representation of the proof)<\/li>\n<li>Revision-proof storage and documented processes<\/li>\n<li>Access for audit\/inspection (audit-proof and traceable)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The classification for storage\/GoBD is regularly discussed in practice along with BMF circulars.
